How often should I have an eye exam?
Make an appointmentAt Lunetterie F. Tohmé, we generally recommend an eye exam every one to two years for most adults. For children, the elderly, or those with specific medical conditions (such as diabetes) or a family history of eye disease, more frequent exams may be necessary. Your optometrist will determine the ideal frequency for you.
What is the difference between an optometrist and an optician?
To readAt Lunetterie F. Tohmé, it is important to understand the roles:
- An optometrist (like our professionals) is a doctor of optometry who performs comprehensive eye exams, diagnoses and treats certain eye diseases and disorders, prescribes eyeglasses and contact lenses, and may prescribe certain medications.
- An optician is a professional who fits, adjusts, and sells eyeglasses and contact lenses according to the prescription of the optometrist or ophthalmologist.
Is my eye exam covered by RAMQ or my private insurance?
Make an appointmentAt Lunetterie F. Tohmé, eye exams are generally covered by the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) for children under 18 and people 65 and older (not including specific tests). For other age groups, some or all of the costs may be covered by your private insurance. We invite you to check the details of your insurance policy or contact us for more information on direct billing.
Can I use my eyeglass prescription to order contact lenses?
Make an appointmentNo. At Lunetterie F. Tohmé, an eyeglass prescription is not sufficient for contact lenses. Lenses require a specific prescription that includes eye curvature and diameter measurements, as well as an ocular health assessment to ensure your eyes can tolerate the lenses. A contact lens fitting exam is required.
