How often should I have an eye exam?

For children, the elderly, or those with specific medical conditions (such as diabetes) or a family history of eye disease, more frequent exams may be necessary. Your optometrist will determine the ideal frequency for you.
What is the difference between an optometrist and an optician?

- An optometrist (like our professionals) is a doctor of optometry who performs comprehensive eye exams, diagnoses and treats eye diseases and disorders, prescribes eyeglasses and contact lenses, and may prescribe certain medications.
- An optician is a healthcare professional who fits, adjusts, and sells eyeglasses and contact lenses according to the prescription of the optometrist or ophthalmologist.
Is my eye exam covered by RAMQ or my private insurance?
Make an appointmentAt Lunetterie F. Tohmé, eye exams are generally covered by the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) for children under 18 and people 65 and older. For other age groups, some or all of the costs may be covered by your private insurance. We invite you to check the details of your insurance policy or contact us for more information on direct billing.
Can I use my eyeglass prescription to order contact lenses?

Lenses require a specific prescription that includes eye curvature and diameter measurements, as well as an ocular health assessment to ensure your eyes can tolerate the lenses. A contact lens fitting exam is required.
How long does it take to receive my new glasses?

Typically, it takes between 7 and 14 business days. We will provide you with a more precise estimate when you place your order.
Do you offer progressive or bifocal lenses?

Tohmé, we offer a full range of lenses, including progressive lenses (which provide a smooth transition between different vision zones) and bifocal lenses (with separate segments for distance and near vision). Our opticians will help you choose the option best suited to your lifestyle and visual needs.
Can I have my glasses adjusted at your place even if I didn't buy them here?
Make an appointmentYes. At Lunetterie F. Tohmé, we'll be happy to adjust your glasses, even if they weren't purchased at our store. We want everyone to feel comfortable wearing their glasses. A small fee may apply for certain complex adjustments or repairs.
How should I clean my glasses properly?
Make an appointmentHere are our recommendations. At Lunetterie F. Tohmé, to clean your glasses, first rinse them under warm water to remove any dust particles. Then, use a mild soap (no lotion) and gently rub the lenses and frames. Rinse again and dry with a clean, soft microfiber cloth (never use paper towels or tissues, which could scratch the lenses). Avoid alcohol- or ammonia-based cleaners.
What should I do if my glasses are damaged or broken?

Our opticians will assess the damage and inform you whether a repair is possible or a replacement is necessary. We offer repair and replacement services, and we will discuss warranty options if applicable.
